Boxed mode

Boxed mode refers to a layout style where the content of a webpage is contained within a fixed-width box, often surrounded by a background or border. This mode contrasts with “full-width” or “fluid” layouts, where content stretches to fill the entire width of the browser viewport.

To activate boxed mode, you need to make sure that the theme you’re currently using supports either Full-width or Wide layouts.

When switching an Advanced Columns block to full-width or wide, a “Boxed layout” toggle will appear in the Inspector Controls panel for that block, allowing you to trigger the boxed mode layout. Specifically:

  • if the block has been set to have a “wide” width, the Boxed layout toggle, when active, will make it so that contents inside the block will be as wide as the content width defined by the theme,
  • if the block has been set to have a “full” width, the Boxed layout toggle, when active, will display another control, called “Inner width” that will allow you to choose the desired content width for the block.
